Bluff Park Art Association Launches New Outreach Committee to Enrich Community Through Art

Hoover, AL – The Bluff Park Art Association is proud to announce the formation of a new Outreach Committee aimed at bringing the joy of art to the elderly and enhancing the art curriculum in local schools. Board member Ashley Lemley and new board member Christy Lane spearhead this initiative. The committee's mission is to engage with the community by sharing artistic experiences led by guest artists. Many artists are current or former participants of the Bluff Park Art Show.

The Outreach Committee recently debuted at Danberry Senior Living at Inverness, hosting a workshop with 14 residents. Bluff Park Art Association President Susan Groves and board member Renee Schneider joined the event. Kaitlin West, a distinguished former student of Mrs. Lemley and a current faculty member at Samford University was the guest artist for the occasion.

Participants were guided in creating decoupage flower vases using vase bases, colorful paper, and Mod Podge. Participants used beautiful sunflowers to fill the newly crafted vases before taking them back to their apartments.

"I just love art. I don't really have any talent, but it is so much fun. It's fun to get together with my friends here and do creative things. We hope programs like this will continue around Hoover and that they can come back again real soon," says Berry Rushon one of the residents.

The event concluded with appreciation from the attendees, who left with both giant flowers and giant smiles. Like Ruston, many expressed their desire for the group to return soon. Board members remarked that the experience was equally enjoyable for them, highlighting the mutual benefit and joy that the Outreach Committee aims to bring to the community.
